Student belongings pickup day for all families, preschool – 5th grade! Class composite photos will also be distributed to students who purchased fall photos. (Corrected post)
Picking up student belongings
The day has finally arrived when parents of our preschoolers – 5th graders can pick up their student’s favorite hoodie, winter coat, 2 pairs of shoes, assortment of little toys, broken pencils, secret diaries, fresh as a daisy lunch boxes or any other wonderful items left in their desk or locker!
(Hope we all have at least a little sense of humor left at this point!)
Teachers are bagging up student items this week and the pick up day for parents will be Tuesday, June 2 anytime from 9 am – 1 pm. We will have tables set up by grade level on the sidewalk outside the office, next to the parking lot. (We’ll be in the vestibule if weather is bad.) There will also be a table with items from the lost & found.
Here are the ground rules:
- A parent, guardian or family member over the age of 18 with a photo id must pick up the items.
- If your student has medications that need to be picked up, a parent or guardian must be present to sign for them. Any meds not picked up Tuesday will be disposed of.
- Anyone coming to pick up items must be wearing a mask.
- Social distancing of 6 ft must be observed while waiting your turn.
- No one will be allowed to enter the building
Returning school materials
This will also be the time for students to return items to the building. There will be bins at each grade level station where items should be placed. Students should return:
- Media Center books
- Classroom reading books
- Reading bags
- Any other items borrowed from teachers or the building (Except Chromebooks. We’ll be collecting those later.)
Lifetouch is partially on shut down, so our Yearbooks have not been shipped yet. We expect to receive them sometime in late summer and will be sure to get them to everyone who paid. Thanks for your patience!
Class composite photos will be available on June 2 for those who ordered fall pictures.
We miss you, so we hope all families will take advantage of the opportunity to bring a bag load of student goodies home for the summer. As we do with lost & found items at the end of each school year, any items not picked up on June 2 will be donated or discarded.
If you know you are unable to come on June 2, please contact Mrs. Waddell before Tuesday to work out other arrangements. Email at email@example.com or leave a voicemail at 313-827-6004. If we hear from you, we’ll hold on to items until the arranged alternative pickup time.
Take care Whitmore families! See you soon.
Now is the time for annual PTA board member elections. Board members are elected for one term only and therefore must be voted in annually. Considering the current state of at home education and lack of face to face meeting with parents and family members, we would like to reach out here to anyone interested in joining the board next year or in nominating fellow parents.
In order for the new board members to be prepared for the upcoming year, it is necessary to allow for their induction and education in the responsibilities of the board as a whole and teach every board member the requirements of their individual position. You do not need to be a member to nominate but you will need to be a member to vote.
Current positions include (but are not limited to): President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer
Anyone interested in these positions, making a nomination, or – in a situation where these chairs fill up – in creating new chairs may contact us at WBollesPTA@gmail.com or via Facebook on the Whitmore-Bolles PTA page. We will take nominations through the weeks of May 25th and June 1st, and the election will be held electronically on June 5th with results being announced Monday June 8th, as the new chairs assume their duties starting on that day. 2019-20 and 2020-21 board members will work together over the summer to guarantee success of the board and continuation of its mission.
Thank you for your assistance in making your PTA the best it can be! 🦅
All parents who have a child who will be five years old on or by September 1st, 2020 should plan on registering for the fall at their neighborhood elementary school. Unfortunately, all annual Kindergarten Round-Ups had to be cancelled due to the state wide school shutdown. It is important for parents to call Whitmore-Bolles and leave us a message if your child will be attending in the fall so that we can get information packets to you. We dropped roundup/registration packets off to families on our list over the weekend May 2-3, 2020. If you did not receive a packet, please call us at 313-827-6800 and leave us a voicemail.
Please use the link below to watch a presentation about this year’s unique registration process, Young 5s opportunities, Kindergarten readiness and videos from our Kindergarten and Young 5s teachers.
(When the presentation opens, click on “Present” in the upper right hand corner to view the presentation. Use the spacebar to advance to the next slide or the arrow keys to go forward or back to a slide.)
Under State law, a child must be 5 by September 1 to enroll in kindergarten. However, parents with a child whose 5th birthday falls after the September 1 deadline but before December 1 have until August 15 to complete a simple WAIVER that will allow them to enroll their child in kindergarten. We also offer a Young 5s program for students with summer and fall birthdays.
There is no waiver available for children turning 5 after December 1.

We had a cancellation (feel better!), so are in need of a quick replacement volunteer to help out. Please call the office at 313.827.6800 if you are able to volunteer today. You will receive a free photo packet!
Our fall Picture Day is October 9. We are in need of two more volunteers to help call down classes, help with the students in line waiting for pictures, etc. We would need you from 8:45am – 3:15pm on Wednesday, October 9, with a break for lunch.

Our Welcome Back packets are on their way to the Post Office. You should receive your packet Thursday or Friday at the address you registered with. The packet contains important information for the first day of school, including a letter from your child’s teacher and information on where they will line up Monday morning.
On Monday, your child will be bringing home even more information in a first day packet. Please check their backpacks as there will be forms that need returned to your teacher!
Our office still has many things to accomplish to get ready for opening day. Due to the large quantity of work to be done, we will not be able to give out teacher assignments over the phone or by email to parents. We recognize that this information is very important to you, but all families will have to wait to receive the mailing for that news. Thanks in advance for your patience.
Supply lists were published by grade level on August 2nd. Scroll down to view the lists.
Enjoy the last few days of summer break!
Hope you all are enjoying the last days of summer break as we gear up for the start of the 2019-20 school year!
Our office re-opened on August 12, but will be closed on Wednesday, August 14 for our annual Professional Development meeting. On Thursday, August 15, we will resume our hours of 8:30am – 4:00pm until school starts.
Our first order of business is always to finalize class lists and prepare the Welcome Back mailing that lets you know who your child’s teacher will be, along with other important first day information. Due to a large number of ongoing new enrollments, class assignments are not yet final. However, we expect to finalize lists soon and have the packets in the mail to families early next week.
Once the Welcome Back packets are mailed, we move on to the many other aspects of getting the school ready for opening day. Due to the large quantity of work to be done, we will not be able to give out teacher assignments over the phone or by email to parents. We recognize that this information is very important to you, but all families will have to wait to receive the mailing for that news. Supply lists were published by grade level on August 2nd in the post right below this one.
We are excited for the new school year ahead and look forward to seeing students and families on the first day of school, August 26. Please note that this is a half day, with dismissal at 11:45am.
See you soon!
