A great message from the donor behind our Leader.org grant:

“May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a time to recognize the contributions of Americans who have enriched our history and contributed to the strength of our country through hard work, ingenuity and, often times, deep sacrifices. While this month celebrates those with Asian and Pacific Islander ancestry, Panda Express believes that grit, grace and gratitude are universal traits that can bring together people from all cultural backgrounds. We invite you to celebrate with us atwww.pandaexpress.com/originality.
Inspired by our Founders and 30,000+ associates and in celebration of APAHM, Panda released two videos that share the stories of people who have earned victory over tall odds. The first video, “Ode to Underdogs,” is inspired by everyday heroes and highlights the moving tales of strong and unwavering individuals who fought and overcame adversity – capturing a common story of determination and triumph. “Reflections” tells the story of Panda Express founders Andrew and Peggy Cherng, and the lessons they learned along personal journeys that began in Asia.

Additionally, Panda collaborated with National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang and Sonny Liew, and award winning cartoonist, to share the stories of unsung heroes through his “Shadow Hero Comics.” The exclusive issue is a story of the first American Chinese superhero Green Turtle who, while not having extreme powers, never gives up and continues to save his city from villains – creating his own, original definition of what a superhero is. Guests can visit any of Panda Express to receive their own printed copy of “Shadow Hero Comics” with the purchase of a kid’s meal or download a digital copy.

Join us in celebrating APAHM and in sharing the spirit of grit, grace and gratitude.

We are looking forward to meeting our students and families to stop by and pick up a comic.”
